The Mooring Hitch Is A Great Quick Release Knot

Camping Tip: How To Tie A Bowline Knot
The bowline knot is a great all purpose knot that has many uses at the campsite.
It’s a very dependable knot as long as the rope is under a load. The knot is popular because when the rope is slack it’s easy to untie (no one likes using their teeth). It can be used for tying a pet to a tree, hanging a hammock, hanging food or a solar shower from a tree, and securing grommets on a tarp.

How To Tie A Taut Line Hitch - 50 Campfires
Knot tying is a lost art form, due in part to bungee cords, ratchet straps, and other devices that allow you to secure a rope without actually tying a knot. While those devices certainly have their place (especially ratchet straps), there are many situations where it is faster to simply know which knot to tie. In addition to that, it’s a skill that develops confidence in the outdoors, and also gives you something to teach others.

8 Knots Every Sailor Should Master (sailing knots)
I am by no means an expert and definitely not an expert at teaching knots, but I do have little visual tricks that help me remember these knots that I find essential and that I use almost every time I get on my sailboat.
The Figure 8 knot was my go-to stopper knot, but now I love the Ashley stopper knot and I'm using it all the time.
I also cover the clove hitch, the bowline knot, the round turn and two half hitches, and cleat hitch.
I made this little video because these are all knots that we taught the students at the learn to sail program run by the Nevada Yacht Club on Lale Mead which I helped organize in Spring 2018.
